Today I wanted to share a review of the first of three new pieces I recently purchased from Zimmermann’s Swim 2022 collection. I have to admit that these purchases were completely unplanned. You know those rare moments when you spot a new piece and you instantly fall in love? It was like that for me, a compelling must “add to cart” moment. I placed an instant order online for x 2 pieces and ended up returning one item in-store, then subsequently trying on an additional two pieces and purchasing those in-store!
Zimmermann is the one designer which I seem to have bought into the most when it comes to quantity of pieces in my wardrobe. I’ve also realized the majority of pieces I seem to purchase from the Australian designer are from their spring and summer collections. Given summer-time is well on it’s way down here in Oz and we’re now able to start heading back overseas for holidays, these new pieces couldn’t have made their way into my wardrobe at a more appropriate time.

Wearing: Zimmermann Moonshine shoulder tie dress; Castaner espadrilles 60mm in ivory; Chloe Nile bracelet bag in biscotti beige; Hermes Clic H cuff in white with rose gold hardware; Tiffany & Co sunglasses (similar option).

The Moonshine print from the Swim 2022 collection

From the moment I spotted the Moonshine tie shoulder dress online, I added it to cart. Zimmermann’s Moonshine tie shoulder dress features a delightfully sweet floral print and it was precisely this aspect of the piece which ultimately cinched my decision to purchase. The harmoniously sweet and powdery soft combination of cream, peach, green and pink instantly caught my eye. Given I adore this particular style of dress and feel that it works for me, deciding to add the dress to my wardrobe was essentially a no-brainer.
It features the sweet floral print all over and has slightly pleated panels horizontally across the bodice and lower skirt. The square neckline at the front provides ample room to showcase the decolletage and any necklaces you choose to wear. Smocking on the upper back affords some stretch around the bodice area, there’s knee-length lining in a peachy-nude coloured fabric and a hidden zip closure at the back. It’s made from 100% cotton for the main material as well as the lining, so in terms of breathability for the warmer weather, this dress will certainly keep you cool. Designed to be worn at a maxi/ankle length, I had to get mine professionally taken up as I’m quite petite, at 5ft 1 in.
Zimmermann tend to use similar styles or designs in their collections and keep us interested by switching up the prints or adding in design details to maintain the freshness and cohesiveness of new pieces in their collections. I already have two maxi shoulder tie dresses from the label in my closet, namely the Brighton tie shoulder dress and the Goldie tie shoulder dress. The Brighton tie shoulder dress is exactly the same as this Moonshine version, right down to the design and feel of the material. The only difference is the print. Given I adore the Brighton dress so much, this also provided some comfort for me when deciding to include the Moonshine dress into my collection.
I never used to like maxi dresses as I was worried that would make me look shorter, when I need all the help I can get in the height department! Yet somehow, over the last few years, I’ve shifted my perception about this. What I adore about Zimmermann’s maxi dresses, in this particular design, is that I don’t feel as if I’m weighed down by too much excess fabric. The bodice is fitted so it provides some shape, the shoulder ties draw the eyes upward and the dress flows into a not too billowy shaped skirt. I don’t need to add in a belt to cinch in the waist to provide shape to my figure – Zimmermann have, naturally, already ensured that has been taken into account when designing the shape and flow of the dress without running into the “body-con” or too tightly fitted territory with this dress.

Maxi dresses are an undeniably elegant option during the warmer months for when you want to feel feminine and cool yet you don’t want to show off too much skin. I love how comfortable they are to wear and how they transition seamlessly from weekend to vacation, from brunch to the beach to the bar. In terms of styling, pairing this dress with some sandals (such as my Oran sandals from Hermes or these affordable Oran sandal dupes) and a basket bag (like this one from Loewe or this affordable option) is a chic combination. Swapping out the sandals for a pair of espadrilles (such as these Castaner espadrilles) and adding a feminine handbag is an alternative styling option for a dressier look.
No matter which accessories and footwear you go for, you can’t really go wrong with the Moonshine tie shoulder dress from Zimmermann’s Swim 2022 collection, especially if your style leans towards incorporating romantic and feminine elements. Zimmermann also have this style in other prints and colourways as well, so I will link those down below. And as for this particular print? Well it also comes in a few different dress styles, a shirt and shorts too. Stay tuned for upcoming reviews on the other pieces I purchased from the collection.
I hope you liked this review and found it helpful. Do you have any items from Zimmermann’s Swim 2022 collection on your wish-list and if so, which one(s)?
