What the 'RUSSH' Editors are wearing to work this winter

There’s something about winter workwear that demands a little more thought. The layering, the texture, the quiet flex of a good loafer or a wool coat that means business. As the temperature drops, the RUSSH team are building uniforms that balance comfort with intent – slouchy tailoring, red accents, heavy knits, and accessories that pull it all together. This is how we’re dressing for the office this season.

I have such an aversion to being cold in the office, so my winter workwear wardrobe is all about layers. It goes without saying that no one does cashmere at an affordable price quite like Uniqlo, and this grey crew neck is my current favourite. When I do venture out, I’m a big fan of Oroton’s fine knit polos – I really want to get my hands on this striped colourway. I find tailoring is an easy way to look put together when it’s arctic outside, without compromising on feeling warm. I really like this charcoal pant and blazer combination from CAMILLA AND MARC – it’s chic as separates or worn together. As for accessories, I keep things simple. This Minima Esencials coat (which is currently on sale) and Assembly Label loafers are really all I need.

Warm and cosy winter workwear essentials are it (shock) right now. Don’t get me wrong – I always preach for stepping out of ones comfort zone in many areas of life – but winter clothing and especially workwear? Not so much. VRG Girl has been on the brain of late – and I’m so impressed with their winter offerings that I want to fill my cart to the brim. For now, I’ll start with their Yumi Knit Jumper Red and Bridgette Knit Vest Red Splice. Both of these would pair perfectly with some pinstripe pants and Mary Janes. Charles & Keith has the Mary Jane game down. Speaking of comfortable… When I say I must get my hands of Friend of Audrey’s The Alpaca-Wool Collar Pullover, I’m saying it with my chest.

An oversized blazer is a must year-round and I love the Frankie Choc Oversized Tweed Boyfriend Blazer from DISSH.

Accessories play a big role in winter, I feel – and I want to keep the red front and centre with this DIESEL Play-Glossy crossbody bag. I also love Argent Silversmith’s Molten colourway ring in silver. You can choose what colour stone/s and it’s currently on sale. Lastly, a cap that goes with everything, and some YSL sunglasses so no one can see my road rage through the windshield in peak hour.

I have many, many pairs of jeans, but am still waiting patiently for Beare Park to drop its denim edit. I’m eyeing the High Rise Straight style (plus, they have a long leg — perfect for me as I’m quite tall and I like my denim to touch the ground). The plan is to wear them into the office with a cashmere knit and black blazer; CHANEL ballet flats if it’s daytime, or a heeled boot if my day extends after hours. I have two pairs at home that I love equally: these ones by The Row, and these by Tony Bianco. And on the topic of denim, I recently bought some Agolde 90s mid rise jeans in a size up and am deeply obsessed. I have the TikTok-popular Lana’s, but much prefer the silhouette of the 90s shape as they’re more slouchy, but not too baggy (also good for girls with long legs).

Another niche office wear recommendation is great socks — not only will they keep you warm, but look cute poking out from underneath your pants. Uniqlo is great and reasonably priced, and I love Maggie Marylin. COS also does incredible socks in all kinds of colourways and fabrications. I love the cashmere, and these sheer ones (very chic).

Winter and I have a complicated relationship. I love her in theory, but then I step outside and it’s like she’s trying to gaslight me into pretending that I’m actually having a good time. No more so than during my commute to the office. Which is why this year, I’ve made sure that my office winter wardrobe can hold up against the elements. A great suit is an absolute must, and in looking for a piece that was a little more than just another black suit, I came across this Christopher Esber Torrent Pinstripe blazer and matching pants.

I also have been on the hunt for a brown or burgundy loafer, and was so happy to see these Alias Mae ones back in stock. Everyone has been raving about them. I also have been wearing my new La Tribe Mya Mules in black satin, which feel so elevated while still being practical. My favourite way to wear them is with a colourful sock for a bit of contrast.

In terms of knitwear, I am a long-time Uniqlo cashmere loyalist – I think I have one in just about every colour – but I really wanted to add one ‘special’ knit for more formal office days to my collection. I love the details on this cardigan from Toteme, especially the fact that I can layer easily underneath, so you’ll definitely spot me in this piece during the winter. I also can’t go through the season without a great denim jacket/shacket, and this year I was due for an upgrade. I picked up the Ari Shirt from Australian brand WNSDY and have worn it so many times already for a more casual office look, while still feeling polished.

Accessories are just as important, and I will be wearing these new By Charlotte Sterling Silver Muse Large Hoops religiously to help dress up even the simplest of office outfits. I also love switching out my work tote for a more wintery iteration, but I haven’t quite decided between these three options just yet – the Saint Laurent Jamie Shopping tote, the new Lotus small textured-leather tote from Khaite that I haven’t seen anywhere yet, or a full-suede moment with the La Passeggiata tote from The Attico. Please help me decide!

My winter wardrobe is oftentimes buttressed by a plethora of knits (more than any sane person needs to own). I love a sporty stripe, and this LA LIGNE Striped Silk, Wool and Cashmere-blend Polo Sweater is a dream. My usual tall black boots that I’ve resoled more times than I can count are finally on their last legs. These Bared Footwear Sitta Boots are the most similar thing I can find that I’m eyeing off as replacements. Wynn Hamlyn dropped a new Woven Beaded Bag that would be a dream work bag for the winter. And Jo Mercer’s Helm Loafers in Pecan Waxed Leather are on my current dream shoe rotation.

I am stuck in a rut of jeans and a long sleeve tee. I need to break free! First things first is a good set of work pants, and this Harris Tapper pair has a great wide silhouette for the perfect slouch. A solid knit to pair with these is the Wynn Hamlyn classic cable knit, bringing a sense of cosy and home to my office days. You’ll be hard pressed to find me in anything but a loafer in winter, such as this Ecco pair in the perfect dark brown. I am dying for my very own Burberry trench, so perhaps you’ll see me in my very own castleford trench this winter… Lastly, a good green leather bag is my go to bag (green leather is still understated but adds that element of intrigue) – I’ve had my eye on this Ralph Lauren RL88 tote that is the perfect size for the office.

I have temperature regulation issues, so an office winter wardrobe for me looks like lots of thin layers that can be easily added or removed. I’ve been living in my Uniqlo cashmere. They’re light and easy to layer but so cosy and warm. Underneath, my Neuw Denim tanks are essential. Over the top, I usually wear an oversized blazer, I have quite a collection in most colours. But recently I’ve been reaching for a navy one from Bec & Bridge and a cream number from Matin – they’re both a few years old but they have similar ones in current collections. Then I alternate between tights with a skirt or jeans. I love my black denim jeans from Nobody, they make me feel very tall (even though I’m 5’3). I’d love to finish my winter looks with the Miu Miu Aventure bag.

I am in the market for a new mini skirt. I’ve worn my current ones to death and they are nearing the end of their 10–15 year lifespan. I’m looking for something in charcoal or brown. I currently have this Bec & Bridge one, this Thrills one and this Sezane one on my wishlist. I also need a new pair of heeled ankle boots. The Senso pair I bought in 2024 are slowly crumbling from the inside out, they lived a good life. At the top of the list are these three pieces: the Nelson Made Louis boots, the Paris Texas Jude boots and the Anine Bing Bekah boots.

Although I love a jacket, it does not offset my utter hatred of being cold, so my winter wardrobe is protective and perhaps what some might call, excessive. Under most outfits, I’m wearing the uniqlo heattech turtle necks, I love them under a shirt and tie as they are insulating, not too bulky. I also love the Wolford bodysuits, they last forever and feel incredible on, as do their Fatal 50 Denier Tights. I love this Ann asymmetric shirt, it is perfect alone or as part of multiple layers or this double layered Beare Park Shirt. I love the softness of a tortoiseshell frame for winter sun and have been coveting some big romantic Chloe frames for those sunny winter afternoons, and possibly the rainy ones too. Whilst I continue to hunt for the perfect leather blazer, a long wool coat is an essential, and I’m in love with this Jacquard number from Dries Van Noten.

Winter office dressing this year is all about comfort, starting with this pair of COS wide leg trousers that I plan to be living in. I have an aversion to too many layers (I feel like they suffocate me), so I’m always quite strategic about my winter outfit equation. Wearing a singlet under my more looser fitting clothes has become a game changer and this year I’ve decided to invest in something that I can wear on its own as well like this Ksubi one or a higher-neck COS ribbed singlet. On top of that I’m wearing a thick oversized black t-shirt (the key is making sure it’s good quality so it fits just right) and then an oversized blazer or coat depending on how cold it is.

My poor circulation means that ankle coverage is also key. Boots always, and these square-toe leather chelsea boots are top of my list. We all know I can’t go past a cuban heel. Last but not least, a bag and I’m bringing a pop of colour to my wardrobe with this sumptuous red tote.
