Melbourne is a wellspring of sartorial inspiration. I often find myself walking down a main street and thinking, ‘That’s the most fashionable person I’ve ever seen,’ only to turn the corner and find the stakes raised again. This couldn’t be truer than when you wander into one of Melbourne’s many boutiques.

Located in the heart of Collingwood, Mane is a multi-brand boutique known for its bright colour palette, curated mix of international and local designers, and exceptionally well-dressed staff.

Part of the job description in fashion retail is to be across new season collections and experiment with different ways of styling and those at Mane have nailed the brief. Wander up the stairs and you’ll soon find yourself in the changeroom, hoping to recreate the outfit the sales assistant is wearing.

Given that the weather is taking a cool turn, we decided to ask Mane staff about the outfits they have on high rotation right now. Read on to hear how they’re styling Alix Higgins, Perks and Mini (P.A.M.), Haikure, Ganni and more.

Jeans are my favourite go-to. I love keeping it easy and these ones from Haikure are a dream. I’m also obsessed with pastels right now (I can’t explain why), so this Alix Higgins cardigan slots perfectly into this aesthetic, layered with a vintage slip and vintage Pradas.

If it’s black and/or sheer, chances are I’m either wearing it or it’s in my wardrobe. The shirt is On Parks (O.P.), the in-house brand at our sister store, Stable, in Albert Park. It’s a reversible number, which is another box-ticker for me. Pants are BeWider, a new mono-product brand which I’m j’adoring, and we’ll be stocking them soon here at Mane. It was founded by the designer of Cheap Monday, so it’s got a gorgy little connection to my Chapel Street-rat youth. The cut is phenomenal and they do both pleather and denim, with more to come, I believe.

The necklace is a glass heart I bought on a recent sojourn to Paris, the boots are rubber Calvin Kleins (random) and the spectacles are Tom Ford.

My daily outfit choices are all about fun layering and mixing baggy streetwear vibes! P.A.M. and Alix Higgins are my top favorites at the moment and these new Ganni lace-up ballet flats add a bit of spice to my look. I love how they bring a little feminine flair while still keeping things unisex.

I love that Mane gives me the confidence and freedom to fully express myself through clothing. I’m wearing the incredible Orson Maneline trousers, with the O.P. pussy-bow Camille blouse, a hot striped Baum und Pferdgarten blazer and Bottega Veneta sunnies from our sister store, Stable.

My style is so varied and depends on my mood and occasion (and sometimes what side of the river I’m on – I’m usually at Stable in Albert Park), but I think that’s what I love so much about fashion.

I have on the new Ganni trench, it feels a little more elevated with its structure and hardware. Perfect for a Melbourne winter. I also have on the new Coperni Bridge Boot, which came home with me after a recent buying trip to Paris. These will be available at Mane very shortly.

My biggest fashion faux paus would be intentionally twinning with friends. I love it when we have matching shoes or accessories, and the different ways we style it and the playfulness of it all. I mixed and matched an off white set – a work jacket from Parisian designer, En Mode De Colour, hat and work pants from P.A.M., black loafers from G.H. Bass with my big St. Agni bag.

It’s super easy to get swept away in neutrals but I’ve been obsessing over sequins and colour lately. I love this Baum Und Pferdgarten skirt – I have it in three colours. I’ve paired it with the Baum Und Pferdgarten Jeanne rugby top and the O.P. Finlay shirt, which I also have in four colours. It’s really rewarding when you find a product that works for you. I’ve been trying to wear heels more and these Proenza Schouler pumps are the most comfortable heels I’ve ever owned.
