As we cling on to what’s left of summer, we’re taking a retrospective look over the fashion landscape this season. Our thoughts? Denim in summer is a must, accessories cannot be missed and stripes are the symbol of the season.
Read on to see our favourite pieces from the summer that got away.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as thankful for the return of baggy jeans as I have been this summer. The Agolde ones live up to the hype and are the perfect light denim wash for the warmer months. Ideal scenario for me is paired with a white tank, and I swear by the Neuw Jonesy singlet. I’m on the taller side so it sits perfectly above a pair of low slung jeans.
My swim pick of the season was the Dawn set from SIR. The shorts were a revelation for me as I don’t always want a one piece, and a bikini doesn’t always feel like me. Added bonus is that I’m seriously considering wearing them to Laneway as shorts with an oversized tee – feels kinda brat?
As someone who burns the moment she sets foot in the sun I don’t leave the house without a hat, and this SIR cap was my pick of the season. Pearls also surprisingly made a comeback for me this summer and I’ve never received more compliments than I did for this necklace. Fair warning though, your two year old niece will try and steal it off you every chance she gets.

Summer has been a pretty minimalist affair for me – the heat and busy schedule has zapped me of almost any energy to be curating a perfect wardrobe. So I’ve been leaning on pieces that bring a sense of ease and comfort into my day-to-day, things I don’t have to spend time fussing over to look great. The first of which is the Elka Collective Poppy Shirt and Poppy Short in a summery blue stripe. This was what I lived in on my holiday up to QLD for an effortlessly thrown-together look. Next was the Maggie Marilyn River Jean, the perfect subtle statement piece. And finally, I have been living for this vintage brown suede bag I picked up the Neogeneralist (my fave curated vintage spot in Brisbane). But something similarly gorgeous would be St Agni’s Connolo Sling Pouch.

I went to MIssoni’s Sydney store opening last night, and was reminded how incredibly gorgeous (everything but) their swimsuits are. Particularly their multi coloured ones, I think they are definitely on my summer shopping list. For a while now since I have been into my film camera, I have been obsessed with Liv’s polaroid camera, particularly after Laneway the photos she got. And I might indulge into one. I am still looking for some Sunglasses, and need to invest in these Saint Laurent ones, I think they have the chicest designs. I also need a new fragrance, I really want one that will last all day, while also being a personal signature fragrance. I think I have settled on Maison Margiela’s Whispers in the Library– a very fitting name and smells amazing, I will be getting this. Also, as an avid Rationale lover, I really want to try their new Radiance Booster Serum, I can’t advocate for their products enough, so I know this will be good. On the topic of wanting to have radiant skin, I also love Westman Atelier makeup, one of my favourite brands, and I think I want to try their liquid radiating tint drops, as a base before concealer, for that extra bronze and glow.

In a surprise to absolutely no one, Maggie Marilyn have killed it once again with their latest drop. I’m trying to be mindful about buying staples for my wardrobe, rather than trends, and this cute ruffled singlet passes the test as the perfect summer staple. I’m also waiting patiently for the weather to shift so I can wear their navy knit – but until then, I’ll settle for draping it over my shoulders.
Arguably the cutest new addition to my wardrobe this summer was this set by Faithfull. There’s something so French about the red stripes. I’ve also rediscovered my love for my trusty Casa Catinella basket – it pairs perfectly with the set, and is big enough for my beach essentials.
The other MVP of my summer wardrobe was these shorts by Henne. I sized up so they sit a little lower on my hips, and they’re my favourite thing to throw on for a coffee run, or dress up with a silky top and kitten heels.

I spent much of my summer at the beach in Port Stephens, followed by a week in Thailand, so easy natural fibres were a priority. I bought two cotton dresses from Deji Studios and wore them to death — one white and one black. I actually bought a long snake print dress from Esse Studios on a whim just before Christmas while it was on sale, and I’ve worn it four times since, not bad for a ‘statement’ piece. I also loved this sheer white tunic from Rebe, it’s easy over swimwear, or denim and a heel for work dinners. As for shoes, I am either in Havaianas (I fear they work for all occasions) or ballet flats; CHANEL is my pick. The hero of my summer beauty wardrobe was this Rimmel eyebrow gel, literally the best I’ve ever used.

I unintentionally kept to a capsule wardrobe over the summer months. I had so much travel booked that I was living out of a suitcase for much of the time. And there were a few pieces that made it into every suitcase, that I kept coming back to. My Faithfull Baia Dress in black is probably my most worn piece of the season. It’s so comfortable and easy to wear and always looks effortless chic. It’s on sale atm too, but if you miss out, the Antoine and Carinna are similar. My Venroy knitted linen set was my favourite plane outfit. For days at the beach, a Fella bikini, with Rollas cut offs and a sheer white shirt I found at Splice Boutique. As for shoes, the By Marlene Birger sandals have rarely left my feet. They’re the perfect shoe to wear with denim.
