The best bras for big boobs, tried and approved by fashion people

At Fashion Journal, we’ve published a lot of stories about big boobs – showing them off, giving them support, getting them reduced, protecting them from disease. You name the boob topic, we’ve covered it. But there’s one question that’s always on our minds: Which Australian and New Zealand brands are fashion people turning to to find bras for bigger boobs?

Those blessed with larger breasts often find it challenging to find bras that fit well, offer ample support and suit the style needs of a fashion lover. Sadly, this is no great surprise. Despite a growing acknowledgement of diverse bodies, many labels are lagging when it comes to offering size-inclusive options. Fortunately, more and more inclusive brands have been emerging in Australia and New Zealand over the past few years.

It’s one thing to find a bra with good reviews from strangers online but it’s quite another to get a recommendation from someone you can actually feel connected to. With that in mind, we’re asking some of our favourite faces in fashion to share their tried-and-true, favourite bras for people with bigger chests. Below is a growing list of their responses and the bras that fashion people really wear.

The Bare Underwire Longline Bra by Primary

Picked by: Cait Emma Burke, writer and producer

As someone with E cup boobs, finding bras that are comfortable, supportive and not hideously ugly has long been a struggle. I don’t generally enjoy wearing bras and opt to go braless whenever possible but working in an office, I can feel a bit uncomfortable going without. I was actually in the middle of an ongoing search for an underwire bra that would fit the above brief when I was kindly invited to Primary, a Melbourne-based lingerie boutique, for a gifting experience.

I want to be super clear here, though – even though the bra I took home was a gift, I genuinely would buy it 100 times over with my own money and I don’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone with big boobs looking for a sexy but supportive bra. It’s the Bare Underwire Longline Bra and I believe it goes up to a size G and it truly fits like a dream and looks sexy, too (something that’s near impossible when you have bigger boobs!). It’s a great bra to wear under sheer, see-through and mesh tops, too.

The Bodycon Multiway Bra by City Chic

Picked by: Sarah Jane Kelly, model and content creator

My absolute favourite bra is the Bodycon Multiway Bra from City Chic. As someone with a bigger bust, finding a strapless bra that actually works has always been a struggle. Most either dig in, slide down or just aren’t comfortable for more than five minutes. In this one, I don’t have to spend the whole day adjusting or worrying about falling out of it. Plus, the multiway straps make it super versatile. It’s my go-to bra for every outfit.

The Support Wirefree Bralette by Nala

Picked by: Holly Villagra, Branded Content and Production Coordinator at Fashion Journal

Finding a bra when you have a bigger bust isn’t exactly a sexy experience. It usually means heading to the ‘mature’ women’s section and picking out something that feels like it’s been passed down through generations. Now, I’m more confident and know exactly what I like: comfortable, secure and wire-free.

I stumbled across Nala’s Support Wirefree Bralette. Don’t let the word ‘bralette’ fool you. This one has thick straps that don’t dig in or leave marks, no dreaded uniboob and a wide, supportive back with three hook-and-eye closures. Oh, and did I mention it comes in cute colourways? Goodbye, grandma bras.

The Couture Full Cup Bra by Primadonna

Picked by: Poppy Smith, model

Being a bigger busted lingerie lover, I’m constantly on the search for bras that can hit the sweet spot between providing proper support and also being beautiful to wear. My current favourite is the Couture Full Cup by Primadonna, which I purchased from Brava – an Australian lingerie shop for D-cups and above.

You can tell immediately when a bra is actually designed for a larger bust. It’s comfortable to wear all day long, the straps are soft and supportive and I’m held up in all the right places. The cherry on top is that it’s also beautiful to look at and feels incredibly luxe underneath anything I wear.
