The beauty swaps I’m making for a budget-friendly glow up

Well, we’ve made it to that point of 2025. While it’s still too early to completely abandon the resolutions we made in January, it’s safe to say the novelty of a fresh year is all but spent. And if you’re anything like me, you also have the bank statement to prove it.

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to budget smarter (or actually, just budget) because let’s face it, the cost-of-living crisis isn’t going anywhere. So far, I’ve made some great strides: I’ve swapped my weekly fancy goat’s cheese for home-brand fetta, and I’ve successfully resisted the urge to order a $20 glass of orange wine every time I go out.

The one financially draining aspect of my life that seems much harder to drop is my beauty routine. Honestly, splurging on new makeup and hair treatments makes me feel a lot better about life sometimes. If we’re all going to die broke in a world decimated by global warming anyway, why can’t I indulge in regular pamper sessions?

My broken Barbie existential thoughts are exactly the reason I have financial issues in the first place. But instead of giving up the beauty treatments that bring me joy, I’ve found other ways to treat myself without going broke in the process. Heading down to my local Hairhouse is always a great starting point.

You might’ve already picked up a handful of haircare and beauty products from Hairhouse before, but beyond its retail space, the range of salon services on offer is second to none. We’re talking bouncy blow-outs, all-over hair glosses and stylist cuts, all under $200. In related good news, Hairhouse also has some limited-time deals you can take advantage of from now until early March – how good!

A full-coverage colour and blow dry… for a fraction of the normal price

Do your hair goals range between ’90s-era Cindy Crawford and vintage photos of Farrah Fawcett’s sunkissed disco curls? Well, you’re in luck, because the expert stylists at Hairhouse can give you just what you’re after.

From February 3 until March 2, you can book an all-over colour and a blow dry for an absolute steal, using semi-permanent or full-permanent dye, with prices varying on your hair length (check the website here to help determine yours).

Short-haired hunnies can get the whole caboodle for $130, those with medium-length locks are looking at $145, and for long and luscious manes, you can expect to pay just $160. Knowing that typical treatments can cost upwards of $250 in other salons, you’d be a fool not to jump on this deal before it’s too late – run, don’t walk to Hairhouse this month!

Treat yourself to a budget-friendly piercing

It’s hard to beat the transformative feeling of a super-lush haircut, but getting a new piercing is downright euphoric. You feel like an absolute badass, for one, and then you get to play with the endless options of bling to adorn yourself with.

From now until March 9, Hairhouse is offering two ear or body piercings with a pair of standard surgical steel jewellery pieces for only $75. The offer excludes dermal and nipple piercings, but nothing is stopping you from getting a new helix, lobe or conch piercing that’s on offer.

These sweet deals won’t be here for long, so make your booking pronto – your future self (and wallet) will thank you! Plus, why not peruse the beauty supplies while you’re there? My recommendations include a beachy sea salt spray and a reliable hot brush to keep up the good hair days after your session.
