Not one, but two stellar new pieces I’ve recently added to my wardrobe – this Anna Quan contrast stitch vest and Posse maxi skirt (AU link, US link). Two beautifully made pieces from two Aussie brands with a conscious approach to style. It’s been a while since I’ve rocked a monochromatic look and it’s a no-brainer why “go monochrome!” is such a go-to tip in a big chunk of the personal style literature I’ve consumed. It’s one of the easiest style “formulas” to execute.
Anna Quan top* (sz AU 8), Posse skirt (sz S – AU link, US link; also here and here), Dries Van Noten heels (my exact pair is from last season but current season shades are here and here; and check out this similar style), Gucci bag (review here – AU link, US link, UK link also here), Status Anxiety sunglasses, Arms of Eve earrings*
As this particular outfit shows, the pieces don’t need to coordinate or be in precisely the same shade to make the look work. The vest top is made of wool while the skirt is made of a heavyweight linen driving home the point that the pieces don’t even need to be in the same fabric. It’s all tied together in the colour. And if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous and want to take things up a few notches (which I highly recommend), you can add some bold accessories.

I’m pretty chuffed with this particular outfit, hence earning its rightful place in a dedicated post. This Anna Quan vest showcases how exquisite her tailoring really is, crafted from premium fabrics and designed to last (this one’s made of 100% wool). And ease of styling? Well, it’s been a piece of cake. I took the top with me to Melbourne on a work trip earlier this week and styled it casually with jeans last night when heading out to a casual dinner with my husband. It’s such a joy to wear.
As for my skirt, this slim line style from Posse has been a welcome addition. How did it come across my radar? Well, all credit goes to Allison Bornstein. Yep, the Allison Bornstein, iconic stylist, every wardrobe’s sweetheart. I booked in a style consultation with Allison a couple of months ago and together, we determined an area of my wardrobe lacking variety was skirts. (Meanwhile, I’ll share everything I learnt in my style consultation to my newsletter subscribers shortly – you can subscribe here so you don’t miss out!) She sent me a list of skirts to consider and this style was one of them. It’s been a great discovery. And for a US-based stylist to recommend an Aussie label to an Aussie.. well, I obviously need to pull my socks up.

As for the bold accessories I deployed to elevate this look, I think the star of the show has to be my Dries Van Noten heels. They’re SO incredible. The curved heel is a design feature unlike anything I have in my shoe rotation and the cut out detail around the toes is next level. While I was fortunate enough to nab these on sale in the colour I was after for so long (the price tag was still 🤢 btw), it would be remiss of me not to mention how not comfortable these are 😅 They’re in the same category as my Manolo Blahnik Maysale mules (which I have whole dedicated post about) which are, without doubt, a pair of exquisitely beautiful shoes, but not the most supportive pair of shoes going round (this is where you need to read between the lines folks). The height of my Dries heels are fine (7.5ish cm) and the block heel isn’t wobbly, it’s just the odd thong/flip-flop like strap that sits between the big and second toes that really isn’t the most comfortable feature. It also doesn’t help that I mainly wear orthopedic-designed shoes when I wear heels to the office! Sigh…
As always, thanks for stopping by!
