The first Faye Webster song I came across was the TikTok sensation ‘Kingston’, and as a self-certified hopeless romantic, I was hooked. Like, hello, yes, the day I met my boyfriend, I did start dreaming. Thank you for putting that into words, Miss Webster.
If, like me, you’ve been swept up by her relatable lyricism, you’ll be pleased to know Faye Webster is bringing her newest (and critically acclaimed) album, Underdressed at the Symphony, to Australia for two special theatre shows in July – one at the Forum in Melbourne on July 12 and the other at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on July 15.

In Underdressed at the Symphony, Webster continues to navigate uncharted territories of emotional intimacy, exploring themes of longing, comfort and passion with her signature dreamy vocals and honest lyrics. The album is a beautiful listen from start to finish, infused with a gentle warmth that’s rare in a piece following an artist to the end of a romance.
Webster’s talent lies in her ability to make songs that speak about the nuances of love in ways anyone can understand. As a result, her newest album tells a story that’s for everyone, regardless of their relationship status.
So, without further ado (and just for a bit of fun), here’s what song from Underdressed at the Symphony you should listen to before the show based on how your love life is going. Your love-o-scope, if you will.
For the newly lovestruck and happily delulu
In ‘He Loves Me Yeah!’, Webster captures the sticky, saccharine feelings of a new relationship – when the first ‘I love yous’ have been exchanged, but you don’t really know enough about each other for it to be anything more than puppy love. It’s a song for when the image of your partner is still dreamlike and hazy, kind of like a Monet painting. This love is simple and pure, naive and certain, and even though your brain knows this stage is temporary, your heart believes it will last forever.
For the girls who understand what it means to yearn
The title says it all. ‘Thinking About You’ is the quintessential soundtrack for staring out the window of a moving vehicle on a rainy day while you think about the object of your desires. Seriously, I’m convinced Webster wrote this track for that exact purpose. She persistently repeats the song’s titular phrase, mirroring how often that special someone pops into your head throughout the day. At six minutes and 34 seconds long and with indie-movie-like instrumentals, ‘Thinking About You’ does just enough to complement your daydream without overpowering it.
For the rom-com protagonist choosing herself
‘Feeling Good Today’ is the sound of post-breakup clarity, the morning you wake up to find that light has returned to your eyes. Webster’s heavily autotuned vocals and lighthearted lyrics remind you that things really aren’t that serious, so you sign up for a pottery class or get a haircut or join a book club. Heartbreak is still there, but it’s faded into the background, and you start making space for the little joys, like remembering to eat before noon or blowing your paycheck on something you want but don’t need.
For the ones still fantasising about an old situationship
Maybe you’re not texting them, but you’re not not thinking about them. ‘But Not Kiss’ is for the lover girls whose months-long situationship never blossomed into something more but still haunts them as a rose-coloured memory and a fantasy of what could have been. It’s not a love song, exactly, but it perfectly encapsulates the experience of knowing you shouldn’t talk to them again but really, really wanting to.
For the freshly heartbroken (we salute you)
The album’s title track, ‘Underdressed at the Symphony’ is an ode to the all-consuming ache of a love that has come undone – the vulnerability, the discomfort, and the certainty that you will never be happy again. Webster nails those moments of self-indulgent rotting when you find yourself halfway through a carton of ice cream, crying to your best friend on FaceTime that your ex is acting like they’re totally fine while you’re suffering. Your higher self knows it won’t always be that way, but this song will be there to sit with you in the meantime.
Frontier Members can purchase presale tickets to one of the upcoming shows on Monday 31 March from 10AM AEDT. Tickets will officially go on sale Wednesday 2 April from 10AM AEDT. To purchase yours, head here.
