One could argue denim is the most versatile of fabrics. But with many options of differing weights, washes and fits, it can sometimes prove a momentous task in finding great quality denim that will not only last a lifetime, but fit.

We all know that as humans, we are built differently from one another, so what may fit my body, may not fit yours. That’s why trial and error is part and parcel with finding the pair of jeans that’ll fit just right or the denim jacket cropped at the right height – no gaping or pulling please and thank you. If only we were all a part of the sisterhood of travelling pants…

All of that being said – the RUSSH team present: our favourite denim pieces of the moment. May this list assist you in your search of denim dreams.

I’ve been in a longstanding battle to find the perfect pair of jeans, but I think I’ve found a few diamonds among the rough. In particular I’m a fan of UNIQLO jeans – any of its relaxed, baggy styles or JW Anderson collection. Of course, Citizen of Humanity at The New Trend is another winner for sustainable denim. And Calvin Klein is timelessly classic. I’m also a big fan of Country Road for denim.

I have an interesting relationship with denim: I love it very much on others, but when wearing it myself either look like a teenage boy who is struggling to find his style, or a frazzled mother from an 80s movie. However, I’m working on this, and usually my go to is my partner’s old Helmut Lang denim jacket that I have ‘borrowed.’ I need to experiment with a baggy jean so I’m looking at these from Paris Georgia via The Iconic. Alternatively, you can’t go wrong with Japanese denim, so these from Junya Watanabe x Levis could be perfect. Our EIC, Jess Blanch is a master of the double denim so I’m tempted to take a leaf out of her book: I adore the cream double denim from Bottega Veneta, however realistically black would be a lot more practical for me, so the Bay Denim Shirt and Brynn Denim Jean are the best solution.

I already have a very healthy denim collection, so I will just be topping it up rather than overhauling. The one piece I do actually need is a denim jacket. I was convinced I had found one earlier in the year but when it arrived, it just didn’t suit me. I plan on trying this Acne Studios one next. But I’ll be going in-store to try it on before committing. I want to add a pair of black denim jeans to my rotation this year and I’ll probably end up in another pair of Levis. I love the baggy fit of the 94s

On my ‘maybe’ list is a cropped pair of jeans like these from Nobody. I was toying with buying a cropped pair so I could show off my shoes more often. Short-girl life means my shoes are completely hidden in regular jeans. But potentially I might just cut off a pair of old jeans I don’t wear as much. And finally, I’m going to buy the Jonesy tank in white. I already have it in green and black and they’re just the best singlets ever. They never roll up, they never lose their shape. Neuw Denim really hit a hole in one with those tops.

As someone who wears denim about 90% of the time, I think it’s safe to say I love it. A baggier style of jeans is my favourite at the moment, and Agolde is my go-to. They’re baggier at the top, and taper in slightly at the bottom which makes them just a touch more feminine. If you’re new to the baggy jean game and want to ease in then the mid-rise wide-leg are also great.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you want super baggy then my recommendation is mens jeans. These COS ones are great, as are the Abrand Men’s A6 Big Baggy jeans. They also have a drawstring hidden inside the jeans so you can adjust them to sit exactly where you want depending on your outfit and how much pasta you’ve eaten that day.

If I’m wanting something a little dressier then Citizens of Humanity are the winner. The Ayla Baggy Jeans go perfectly with heels, and the Annina Trouser Jeans are perfect for a European summer getaway.

Last but not least, shorts, and these Agolde ones did not leave my body this summer. Not too short and not too long. Perfect with cowboy boots.

If you know me, you know I wear jeans at least four days a week, so this is a topic I take quite seriously. My go-to silhouette is something straight but not super tight – kind of like a perfectly worn-in vintage pair. If you want the feel of something vintage, without hunting around a vintage shop for hours, you can’t go wrong with Rolla’s Stevie Relaxed silhouette. I recently added the worn black colour into my rotation, and now I’ve got my eye on the Brad Blue colourway.

I’m a longstanding Henne fan, and their denim is worth the hype. If you can manage to snag a pair (they sell out nearly immediately every time they restock), I love the Valentina’s for a classic straight-leg, high-rise cut.

Perhaps controversially, I’m pretty partial to a white denim moment, and these ones by Elka are my current favourites. And this winter, I’m looking to add some looser silhouettes into my rotation – the baggier the better. At the top of my list is this low slung pair by Agolde.

I love ksubi denim, the Brooklyn Heritage jeans in particular. I’d like to try the new barrel jean in statik blue. The colour and fit of Lioness’ Top Model Jeans speaks to me, and the same goes for the Aje Rylan Extra Wide Leg Jean (currently on sale).

Stepping away from jeans and into jackets, the buttons on the Denim Oversized Jacket from SCANLAN THEODORE are swoon-worthy. And one cannot go past VIKTORIA & WOODS’ classic Nashville Jacket. I’ll be layering it over a turtle neck regularly, as a chic winter go-to outfit.
