In partnership with UNIQLO
What do you get when you combine one of the most prolific fashion designers in modern history with a household label like UNIQLO? Effortless wearability, with a heavy dose of sophistication thrown in.
Claire Waight Keller has lent her distinct eye to UNIQLO: C’s Fall Winter 2024 collection, and the result is every bit as inspired as we’d hoped. Known for a design DNA that marries minimalism with elegance, Waight Keller was a natural choice for the forthcoming line, crafting a collection that speaks to the dynamic rhythm of urban life, and blends comfort with currency for both men and women. The collection captures the essence of autumn and winter in the city, featuring clean lines, fine detailing, and an undeniable sense of ease.
It’s the first time UNIQLO: C has ventured into menswear, with Waight Keller the perfect person to helm this expansion. Under her eye, the menswear offering reimagines wardrobe staples with a fresh, updated feel. Think: relaxed parachute pants and coordinating sweats that lend a laid-back city feel, and soft broadcloth shirts in muted tones perfectly complemented by a generous utility parka.
For womenswear, comfort was similarly at the fore, with Waight Keller, introducing new styles in the most luxurious cashmere blends. HEATTECH innovation also makes its debut with a fine cashmere blend, as an essential base layer for the upcoming cooler weather. The collection is completed with cosy padded clogs, hooded neck warmers, and fluffy fringed stoles, marrying utility and elegance as only Waight Keller and UNIQLO can.
But don’t just let us tell you. RUSSH purists, Bella Thomas and Nick Truelove brought the collection to life, demonstrating exactly how Waight Keller’s design expertise culminated in the ultimate wearable collection. We caught up with them while on set to hear exactly how they’ll be styling UNIQLO: C’s Fall Winter 2024 collection as we prep for cooler weather. Read our conversation below.
RUSSH: How would you describe your personal style?
Nick Truelove: Classic with a touch of street. I like to build a look around one strong or standout piece. I think it’s important to create a nice silhouette. Baggy pants and a smaller top are always a good base – then accessories.
Bella Thomas: Classic and low fuss.
Claire Waight Keller is known for timeless, sophisticated designs – how would you style these pieces to bring a little bit of your personal style to them?
NT: I am always looking for comfort. I would pair the matching sweats with a loafer or boot and some nice glasses. Or a jacket with a pleated baggy trouser and a vest underneath.
BT: I’d definitely layer these pieces in nicely with my wardrobe. I love to layer dresses over pants, especially in winter. She’s done some beautiful knits that I’d work in too.
The collection is inspired by the palpable atmosphere of the city in winter. What is your go-to outfit formula for the cooler months?
NT: As the winter season creeps upon us, the layers start to come with it. Finding what colours work nicely together with those layers can really elevate an outfit.
BT: I always work my outfits around my pants and shoes. I’ll layer a loose tee or form fitting singlet with a knit and jacket.
What are you loving for the upcoming winter season? Is there anything you’re most excited to style as we leave behind the warmer weather?
NT: Knitwear, matching sweats with a boot or loafer, beanies, and oversized suit jackets.
BT: I’m excited to wear some great jackets! Sydney summers are so hot, it’s hard to put an outfit together as you just want to feel breezy.
Do you have any autumnal or winter rituals that you like to incorporate into your routine as the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler?
NT: As it gets colder, I feel it’s more necessary to keep up with my skincare routine – looking after my skin is a massive priority for me.
BT: I love soaking in a warm bath once a week. Our apartment gets freezing, so I like to make it feel cosy. I bring out all the wool blankets and light all the candles.
UNIQLO is all about wearable staples – what’s one thing you can’t live without in your wardrobe?
NT: It may be simple, but a vest is my go-to. It can be worn on its own with baggy pants and accessories, layered under a suit or worn when playing sport. A good vest (or a few) are a big staple in my wardrobe.
BT: Definitely my vintage pair of black jeans that I found years ago. I also have quite a few favourite knits that will never leave my wardrobe.
