It’s been a few weeks since I’ve officially been back at work (that includes being wiped out from a virus for over a week) but I’m still clinging onto those summer holiday feels that aren’t too in the distant past. The Christmas / New Year period is always such a magical time, particularly with how frenzied the lead up to Christmas can be to get things done and catch up with people before the break. I love being in Sydney over the summer – there’s a visible vibe shift and it’s so much more relaxed, a welcome change from usual shenanigans. We mostly stayed in town but managed a short trip out of the city and made our way up the coast to stay with friends in Port Macquarie. We drove further north to Bellingen before making our way home.

In this post, I’m sharing a few of the outfits I wore during those magical weeks – I kept it pretty simple and comfortable, as you’ll be able to see from the looks featured below. I need to call out a few pieces that I really enjoyed wearing (and wore repeatedly). Those summer MVPs include:
Uniqlo tanks with in-built support (AU link / US link)- normally I write these lists in no particular order but this is first on the list because it is honestly one of the best discoveries over the past few months. I can’t take credit for this – it was one of my work mates who introduced me to them (thanks Katie!) – and she’s absolute right – they’re seriously the business. I bought the tank in 4 different colours. I also tried the dress version (AU link / US link) but I didn’t find it to be the most flattering (around my mum tum area particularly).
Alemais linen shirt – gosh, this shirt sparks joy every time I wear it. I was fortunate enough to pick mine up from their warehouse sale last year so my exact shirt is no longer available as it’s a few seasons old, but I’ve linked a few similar styles for you if you want to achieve the same vibe. Alemais linen is top notch by the way. It’s a weightier fabric so it doesn’t wrinkle as soon as you look at it (like poor quality high street ones). I loved wearing this as both a shirt and a shacket – it’s been perfect for when the breeze has been slightly cooler.

JAG linen shirt + matching shorts – matching sets are all over my feed at the moment and the hype is definitely warranted. Wear them together! Style them separately! The possibilities are endless! Perhaps it’s my age, but I prefer wearing long sleeve shirts particularly when the sun is blazing hot and this has been the perfect breezy summer set. The shirt is deliciously oversized and the shorts are super comfortable (thanks to the elasticised waist).
Teva sandals – where to start with these… so comfortable, so spongy. These are pretty popular amongst the hiking community and dads in general (lol). But they’ve got arch support, they’re waterproof (making these handy for the beach) and when it comes to comfort, I prefer these over my Birkenstock Arizonas. Beware of horrible tan lines but as long as you’re diligent with sunscreen application, you’ll be right.
Henne denim shacket – This is described as a shirt, but I consider this to be more of a jacket thanks to the weighty denim used. It’s honestly such a great piece – the denim is a classic vintage wash but the cut is oversized and effortlessly chic. They’ve also made improvements on the design in recent months and replaced the traditional buttons with stud buttons to make it a less fiddly task to fasten the jacket.
Lululemon pants – these are lightweight and flowy that are cropped on most but, surprise surprise, are full length on me – huzzah! (It’s one of my oldest tricks as a petite person – cropped trousers from lululemon make excellent full length trousers on us shorties!) They’re cut from a lightweight and quick drying fabric and have an elasticised waist – what dreams are made of.
Now that’s out of the way, let’s check out some of those MVPs in action shall we:
