Homegrown gem Phoebe Tonkin has a style all of her own. And no better was that demonstrated that her recent New York nuptials to art advisor and curator Bernard Lagrange. The multiple-day celebration culminated in a perfectly understated but oh-so elegant custom CHANEL gown, complete with a lace veil — a fitting choice for a CHANEL muse. And for the after party? She slipped into vintage John Galliano.
When she’s not walking down the aisle, Tonkin is known for her girl-next-door charm and loose style, favouring comfortable, less-structured garments paired with vintage Levi’s bootleg jeans, hand-knitted Jenny Kee sweaters, silk shirts and 80s accessories – big earrings, shoulder pads, big hair. Her style icons range from Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy to Hailey Bieber to Lara Worthington, but she’s managed to pull together a style that’s all her own. While she certainly loves to support Aussie designers like Matteau and Christopher Esber, she’s got a distinctly French vibe about her – perhaps due to her close friendship with French model Camille Rowe.
When it comes to beauty, Tonkin keeps things fresh and natural, only a red lip applied on occasion. She’s a big jewellery lover though. “Jewellery is something I’ve loved collecting. As you get older your jewellery collection grows and everything means something, whether it came from your ex-boyfriend, your boyfriend, or your mum handed something down to you,” Tonkin told Who What Wear in 2018.
The actress has made her own forays into the fashion world – launching her own sustainable loungewear line Les Jours in 2020 and collaborating with brands like Rolla’s on a capsule denim collection.
