What time does it start?

While the Met Gala kicks off in New York on Monday evening, that’s really Tuesday morning (6 May) here in Australia.

Expect guests to start making their way up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York at the following local times:

• 8am AEST: ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria
• 7:30am ACST: Northern Territory and South Australia
• 6am AWST: Western Australia.

What is the 2025 Met Gala theme?

This year, the Met Gala theme will honour a Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Of course, that’s not to be conufsed with the dress code, which is derived from the theme itself. This year, the dress code is ‘Tailored For You.’ According to Vogue, this dress code is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation.”
