In the realm of fashion, few personalities have captivated the attention of Gen Z quite like Emma Chamberlain. From humble origins as the quintessential VSCO YouTuber, to today starring in Calvin Klein and Cartier campaigns, you might be wondering how did she do it?

We’d argue that, in large part, it’s to do with her authenticity. That raw, unfiltered energy made her endlessly relatable. And now, despite becoming one of the most famous people on the planet, she’s somehow never lost that genuine touch. And now, despite becoming one of the most famous people on the planet, she’s never lost that genuine touch. Put it this way: at just 17, she influenced us to wear high ponytails with colourful scrunchies, and now at 23, she’s got us fantasising about owning a vintage gold Baignoire Cartier watch.

After blowing up on YouTube, Chamberlain moved to L.A. in 2018, where her style began to evolve. Experimenting with colours and patterns, her style became fun and achievable with her thrifted finds and DIY ensembles. She leaned into thrifted finds, quirky patterns, and DIY fashion, turning everyday pieces into aspirational looks. The trend ignited by her that had us all in a chokehold, other than the scrunchy, was the light brown teddy bear jacket. As a personal victim of this trend, I have to admit: it was practical, comfortable, and cute (at the time).

But it wasn’t until 2019 when a partnership with Louis Vuittin really catapulted Chamberlain to forefront of streetwear chic. Watching someone so relatable take a seat at one of the world’s most exclusive fashion events felt like a cultural reset.
Brands like Calvin Klein, Aritzia, Levi’s, and Miu Miu quickly followed suit, all recognise her influence and, shortly after, clamouring to collaborate with her.

Her success has also landed her the coveted opportunity of being the Met Gala special correspondent — in 2025, for the 5th year in a row. The first two years dressed by Louis Vuitton, and then by Miu Miu, to last year’s Jean-Paul Gaultier dress – we wonder who will be dressing her this year?
