It’s never easy trying to come up with a new series of outfit combinations for the working week. Instead of having a set uniform of crisp white shirts and tailored black pants (as much as I love both), an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a new set of questions. Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And most importantly, will I be in the background of someone’s TikTok?

For Melbourne-based stylist Jade Leung and her best friend (or ‘twinny’), hair and makeup artist Phoenix Ly, a working week in their wardrobes is increasingly coordinated. Whether they’re working together or not, the pair have taken to coordinating their outfits to complement each other and documenting the process on Instagram.

Though they share the same creative ingenuity, pastel-pink hair and often the same set, Jade and Phoenix have very different roles on a shoot day. While Jade comes armed with an overnight bag (or several) full of outfit options, safety pins and accessories, Phoenix works with a kit of hair and makeup tools to build the beauty looks to match. They both work incredibly hands-on roles, running between sets, shots and sporadic sourcing trips to create the shiny end product you’ve probably seen on your Instagram feed (or on Fashion Journal).

Balancing comfort and style in their work outfits is key, making Dr. Martens a natural choice for durable (but never boring) on-set shoes. From cherry-red Mary Janes and pinstripes to platform sandals and acid-wash denim, here’s how Jade and Phoenix dress for a busy week.

I’m on set today with my twinny, Phoenix. We both opted for pinstripes and Labubus to pair with our Mary Jane Elphies from Dr. Martens. We love the navy pinstripe and white sock combo with the cherry-red leather.

We might not be on the same set, but that doesn’t stop us from coordinating our looks. The barrel-cut leg on my jeans sits perfectly over these super comfy Buzz Nappa lace-ups, quickly becoming our favourite ‘long day on set’ shoes.

Sometimes we get to shoot outdoors and sometimes, like a Christmas miracle, Melbourne turns on the autumn weather. Today was one of those days. It was the perfect outdoor sandal weather, so we were very excited to utilise our easy Dr. Martens Mattison Athena slides.

I had meetings today, so I went with more of a put-together look. A shirt, tie, jeans and Elphie Mary Janes are becoming my go-to smart casual work look. Phoenix had a makeup event today, so paired her Elphies with a super cute twin set and bomber. So cute and easy to dress up or down.

Today was a bit of an errands day, but I was excited to meet up with twinny for a matcha latte date. We were both sourcing [for shoots] and running around in the city today, so we both went for comfort with our Buzz Nappa lace-ups. This might be my favourite look for the week!
