- Jeff Goldblum stunned at the Sydney premiere of Wicked with a tailored, emerald-themed ensemble.
- Goldblum’s sunglasses sparked a “broment” with DMARGE founder Luc Wiesman.
- The red carpet also saw standout looks from Wicked cast members Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey.
We’ve long had Jeff Goldblum pegged as the year’s (if not the decade’s) foremost male style icon. His MET Gala outfit was a masterclass that cemented his position as the world’s most stylish pensioner. His equally effortless Paris Fashion Week look only confirmed what we already knew. Now, his beautifully tailored green-machine look at the star-studded Sydney premiere of Wicked — complete with killer sunglasses — has proved beyond doubt that he’s the man of the moment.
Descending on Sydney State Theatre last night (Sunday, November 3rd), fans greeted the cast with unabashed enthusiasm to celebrate the Australian release of the long-awaited film adaption of the hit Broadway musical. Dubbed the ‘Journey Through Oz’, this is part of a global press tour with five more events to go. While all cast members — including Arian Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey — made strong impressions with their wholly on-brand looks, Goldblum took the sartorial biscuit.
What did Jeff Goldblum wear to the Sydney Premiere of Wicked?
Goldblum — who plays The Wizard in Wicked — wore a brown tailcoat with extra-long tails, black lapels, and what appeared to be a golden feather pinned onto his left lapel. Underneath the tailcoat was a green silk shirt with a contrasting white collar and no tie. On the bottom half, he wore olive green wide-fit trousers and black dress shoes. He completed the look with quiffed-up hair and sunglasses.

Goldblum’s outfit is playing to two themes here. First, it embraces the colour theme of the movie — Wicked is famous for its emerald colour scheme, inspired by Elphaba’s green skin — while the extra-long tailcoat nods to Goldblum’s magical role with decidedly wizardly vibes. Second, Goldblum is playing to the strengths of his slender 194cm frame: only somebody so tall could pull off tails that long. Equally, you then risk looking a little lanky; Goldblum offsets this with the wide-legged trousers which help give him such much-needed breath. Here’s what DMARGE’s resident style expert, Jeff Lack, thought of the look:
“With a theme like this, it’s really difficult to make the outfit look good when it’s essentially a costume. Not only have they managed to put some elegance and sophistication into it, but they’ve kept it contemporary with the wide fit through the bottom… Plus, that mint green is a hard colour to pull off but he did a good job.”

What Sunglasses does Jeff Goldblum wear?
What really tied Goldblum’s outfit together was his sunglasses, which we identified as Jacques Marie Mage, specifically their Delean frames which retail for punchy but by no means extortionate A$1480. The 60s-inspired spectacles combine the bold volume of the frames with the sleek line of the arms, themselves imbued with precious metal details to create a timeless, charismatic.

Our very own founder, Luc Wiesman, was also at the premiere and enjoyed something of a broment with Goldblum as he strolled by on the red carpet:
“Jeff and I shared a moment on the red carpet when we both clocked we were wearing the same sunglasses. Jacques Marie Mage seems to be the flavour of the month.”

Founded in 2014, the Los Angeles-based spectacle brand claims to be “a maker of rare, collectible spectacles that combine historical motifs with precious materials, innovative production methods, and ethical business practices”. All in all, you can see the appeal for Goldlbum and his stylist Andrew Thomas Vottero.

Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey’s Outfits at the Sydney Wicked Premiere
While Goldblum really caught this writer’s attention, we ought to give some air time to his co-stars, all of whom made an equally cracking effort with their red carpet outfits. The two other big male stars of the night went with sharply contrasting looks.

Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero Tigelaar, went for a yellow-brick-road-inspired golden silk shirt paired with a cream suit, even more wide-legged than Goldlbum’s. Eagle-eyed fans will also spot the frog broach on his waistband, apparently named Toadie, after the Neighbours character. Ethan Salter — who plays Boq but is also Ariana Grande’s boyfriend — went with a more classic black suit, paired with a brown shirt and tie.

And now, the ladies: Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda, went with a suitably fairy-tale pink dress, complete with fitted bodice and very voluminous sleeves. She accessorised the look with over 100 carats of diamonds in custom-made Lorraine Schwartz. Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, opted for a strapless black gown and matching choker. Marissa Bode, who plays Nessarose, also chose a strapless gown, this time in light green, paired with metallic green stiletto shoes.
All in all, it was a very well-dressed night that attendees won’t forget in a hurry. It will be interesting to see whether the stars can maintain their style and their enthusiasm for the remaining five stops of the press tour, or whether they really turned it on for their Aussie fans with a bit of showbiz magic.
